A peek into Metro’s frequent bus proposal (Streetsblog L.A.)
Joe Linton takes a look at the recent draft document posted on Metro’s website that proposes to increase the frequency of some bus lines by cutting back others. Joe thinks there is merit to the concept but notes that the devil is in the details, which at this time are sparse. More info on the proposal will be released at a later date, I’m told. Until then, a friendly Metro reminder: nothing has been yet decided.
Expo Line test train to cross into Santa Monica on Friday (L.A. Times)
In the wake of Wednesday’s clearance test — in which a train was towed to and from the Downtown Santa Monica Station — the Expo Line is scheduled to run a test today under its own power. Santa Monica officials are thrilled and say they will be encouraging people by getting around more via walking, biking and transit.
Same old, same old (Boyonabike)
A totally fair lament that there has been no effort to install bike lanes on Sierra Madre Boulevard in Pasadena to help connect to the current terminus of the Gold Line. Attentive readers know that this isn’t the first time this column has aired the complaint that Pasadena has done too little to connect cyclists to its six — count ’em, six! — Gold Line stations.
Terrifying map shows depths of hell that is the western U.S. (Grist)
Yes there are a lot of wildfires burning in the West — with Alaska particularly hard hit. Perhaps this map overdoes it, at least at a certain scale. That said, if climate change is the culprit and climate change bothers you, try walking, biking and the bus/train every so often to reduce your carbon footprint. As High Country News notes, the wildfire season hasn’t broken any records. At least not yet.
